A 12 week study revealed that obese people that consumed half a fresh grapefruit before a meal for 12 weeks showed significantly greater weight loss as well as improvements in insulin resistance linked to metabolic syndrome.1✅ JOURNAL REFERENCE
PMID: 18617377 Even though the process of this weight loss is not known it appears reasonable to add grapefruit to a weight loss diet.
In a 4 – 12 week study 2 groups of 10 overweight people got either 1.4 grams a day of a citrus dry extract of red orange, orange and grapefruit or a placebo. In the citrus extract group body fat was significantly reduced with a difference of 5.53 percent and 15.6 percent after 4 and 12 weeks, respectively, whilst body weight was significantly reduced with a difference of 2.2 kg and 5.2 kg after 4 and 12 weeks, respectively. The outcomes revealed that the citrus extract effectively breaks stored fat and could help to prevent obesity by bringing down BMI.2✅ JOURNAL REFERENCE
